Emily Edwards D.V.M., M.S.

Dr. Edwards is an Abita Springs native. Her family has lived and done business in Abita Springs for
eight generations.  She is passionate about the field of veterinary medicine and loves people and
their pets.

After graduating from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science degree, she pursued her
interest in animal behavior in a Masters program at Texas A & M University (TAMU). During her
Masters degree, she worked at the Texas A&M Cattle Station in Overton, Texas and the swine
facility at the University.  Her focus was on studying stress physiology in large animals. She then
furthered her education by pursuing her DVM degree.  During vet school, she finished her Masters
thesis and worked in the Microbiology Lab. She graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine
at Texas A&M University in May 2000.

She then worked at The Cat Practice in Oak Park, Illinois for 4 years where she learned a great
appreciation for the nuances of a feline only hospital mainly being the diagnostics and treatment of
acute and chronic illnesses and surgery.  She had extensive follow up with her clients in order to
know the daily and weekly needs of her chronically ill patients.  She became part of her patient's
lives and hopes to re-establish that kind of doctor-client-patient relationship with her clients at
Abita Veterinary Practice.

After taking some time off to have a beautiful daughter, she returned home permanently in May
2005 to Abita Springs. Since 2005, she has worked as a relief veterinarian at many different small
animal hospitals in St. Tammany Parish. She feels privileged to have gotten to meet some of the
warmest and most wonderful people, pets and veterinarians.

Her goal is to bring all her gained medical knowledge of dogs and cats to the residents and pets of
Abita Springs and St. Tammany Parish.  She will also strive to provide the highest quality standard
of care in the most affordable way possible. She is joyful and enthusiastic to be back home in
Abita Springs and hopes to be able to bring her knowledge, experience and help to owners and
their pets for years to come.
